The journey from the couch into the arms of a Marine is 26.2 miles of blood, sweat, and tears. Jean’s Marines is an inspiring documentary of how Toronto doctor Jean Marmoreo healed the wounds of her own personal mid-life crisis and motivated a group of one hundred middle-aged women to take on the challenge of a lifetime - competing in the US Marine Corps Marathon. Dr. Jean Marmoreo had been taking care of women in her medical practice for over twenty years. Although Jean had all the trappings of a successful life – three kids, a husband, big home and successful practice – her own life was rife with problems. When her marriage fell apart in the early 1990’s, Jean sold her home, ended her marriage, and then met Bob Ramsay. Together they walked the Appalachian trail (more than 1,000 miles) during the summer of Jean’s fiftieth birthday, and at the end had fallen in love. Ten years later, they’ve switched to marathons and this year have decided to share the experience with a hundred of their favourite women as the group begins to train for the US Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. These women each have their own heart-rending stories to tell and drawing on Jean’s leadership, we watch as they overcome their own painful challenges through the power of running and friendship. Marmoreo proudly calls them ‘Jean’s Marines’.
